A Stringbag reborn, the
reconstruction of Swordfish W5856 (“Stringbag Reborn”). RNHF.
For over two years British Aerospace, Brough
has been restoring a World War II Fairey Swordfish Torpedo/Bomber aircraft.
'5856' was originally built by the company's predecessor, Blackburn Aircraft
at Sherburn-in-Elmet in 1941. It was acquired by British Aerospace in 1990
from the Strathallan Collection in Scotland with the purpose of restoration,
and eventual presentation in a flying condition to the Royal Navy Historic
Flight.
The small team of engineers restoring the Swordfish at
Brough has certainly been challenged over the twenty six month restoration.
With a distinct lack of design information concerning the aircraft, the
knowledge, experience and above all, the enthusiasm of key individuals,
have been paramount in ensuring the aircraft's successful completion
today.

Roaring Glory Warbirds is the first
and only series that puts you into the pilot's seat of a World War II fighter
to experience the thrill of aerial combat. Part I: Flying the
A6M5. Nothing could match the power, speed, range or handling of the Japanese
A6M5 Zero naval fighter at the start of World War II. Roaring Glory
Warbirds proudly presents its first international classic aircraft, featuring
the only authentic flyable Zero remaining in the world today! Part II:
The Young Pilots - What was it like to be a fighter pilot for the Japanese
Navy? In many ways, it was not unlike the experiences of young pilots
of any other country. Pilots shared a common bond as agile warriors
whose battlefield was the blue sky over the Pacific Islands.
The true story of ace fighter pilot Capt. Masajiro "Mike" Kawato is unique
though, because he is the one who shot down Marine ace "Pappy" Boyington's
F4U Corsair! Many years later, Mike and Pappy became best friends
- as fellow US citizens!
Roaring Glory Warbirds is the first
and only series that puts you into the pilot's seat of a World War II fighter
to experience the thrill of aerial combat. First half of the video is presented
as a technical walk-around of the aircraft and a short flight. The restored
"31" is featured throughout the video often mixed with some excellent original
WWII film. WWII footage is featured in the second half through a
short drama, based on a historical event.
Roaring Glory Warbirds is the first
and only series that puts you into the pilot's seat of a World War II fighter
to experience the thrill of aerial combat. First half of the video is presented
as flying the Avenger. As you lift off into the sky, with expert warbird
pilot and unlimited air racer Steve Hinton. Check out the controls
and handling of this massive and unique Navy torpedo bomber. Experience
the sound and fury felt by pilots in battle over Midway, Guadalcanal, Leyte
Gulf and the Philippine sea. Part II: The Young Pilots - follow them
in action - Share the sheer terror, as Kamikazes blow up the deck where
the young pilot must attempt to land his bomb-laden TBM
Roaring Glory Warbirds is the first
and only series that puts you into the pilot's seat of a World War II fighter
to experience the thrill of aerial combat. This volume in the Roaring Glory
Warbird series is dedicated to recreating the actual experience felt by
Doolittle's Raiders back in April of 1942. Pilot Jeff Ethell takes you
along on this incredible journey, through the misty layers of time, over
farm and field, across the pages of history into those hours and days just
after Pearl Harbor, when the B-25 lifted off the aircraft carrier USS Hornet
and also lifted the morale of every American.
